"Pray for open doors and the courage to step into them."
What would it look like for us to see every day as a mission field? To be alert, intentional, and prayerful about the doors God opens right where we are? Colossians 4 gives us a powerful framework, urging us to pray for open doors to share our faith and to speak with wisdom, grace, and readiness to reveal Jesus to those around us. Paul reminds us that God’s heart is not just for us to live “filled-full” lives, but to be conduits of that fullness for others.
Prayer, Paul says, is essential in this work. It's how we ready our hearts to align with God’s, seeing the opportunities He places in our path and courageously stepping into them. But prayer isn’t just for those we encounter daily; it’s also for those who may have never heard the name of Jesus, in places where the gospel is unknown. By praying for gospel workers and unreached people, we align our hearts with God's mission for the world.
Living wisely with “speech seasoned with salt” means we’re called to be real, relevant, and relational. Sharing Jesus isn’t about winning an argument or completing a religious task; it’s about speaking from the overflow of a life changed by Christ. This may mean a word of encouragement, an honest testimony of God’s faithfulness, or a compassionate response that reflects His love. Each conversation is an opportunity to be a vessel of God’s grace, especially in moments when we feel inconvenienced or when courage is required.
Paul invites us into a life not just of personal fulfillment, but of Kingdom impact. So let’s pray steadfastly, stay watchful for open doors, and step into them with grace, knowing that Jesus—the Good Shepherd who laid down His life for us—goes before us in this mission. And in each small act of courage, we’re part of God’s grand story, bringing the hope and fullness of Christ into a world that desperately needs Him.
